The European District of Strasbourg was awarded the European Heritage Label in December 2015. Created in 2007 by the European Commission, the Label aims to highlight the European dimension of cultural goods, monuments, natural or urban sites, places of remembrance, and witnesses of European history. Its ambition is to strengthen the feeling of belonging to a common European identity among all European citizens. It encourages respect, knowledge, and attachment of European citizens to their heritage.
